BUILDING PROJECTS

Houses

Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras, is home to 2.2 million people. 80% of all Hondurans live in the metro cities within the country. Many Hondurans move to the city looking for a place to live and work. Because of this, thousands upon thousands are homeless and living on the streets, in makeshift houses made out of anything they can find or sharing living quarters with other family units just to survive.

Torch Missions builds homes for the homeless. In the past twenty-three years, the teams have built over 3,700 homes to those who have nothing. Families that were on the streets, or in substandard housing are now in strong wooden houses with a tin roof, and a wooden floor. More importantly, the family has a sense of security the mothers are safe from the harmful elements that might intrude on her and her children.

Groups build these houses free of charge to the families in need. TORCH teams raise money each year through donations and sponsors to build these houses. These single room houses vary in size according to the building conditions. Most houses are 18’, long 16’ wide, with one window, a wooden floor, and a locking door. Certainly not fancy according to our standards, but much safer than what they had before.

Other Structures

Torch Missions also helps build schools, bridges, churches, medical clinics, water wells and other structures that are needed. The primary goal of all our construction projects is to improve the quality of life for poor families in a tangible way. Many of the homes we build are for single mothers and families who have significantly substandard shelter or no shelter at all.  In many cases, we partner directly with the community itself in these projects, giving them ownership in the process and sharing the joy of the completed work.
